child custody

child custody. My child lives in Miss. and the custody was granted in miss. Child is 14yrs old and inthe past 7 yrs had been through mother od living with mandy men and child attempted suicide this past September. Child thought she was pregnat. Test came back negstive.

To obtain custody do I have to go to Miss or do I need to get lawyer in Tenn? Do I have grounds for neglect?

Based on the limited information you have provided, it appears you are going to have to litigate this in Mississippi. Regardless, it sounds like you have a child in real danager and certainly apppears to be a victim of neglect.

You are welcome to call us and we can discuss this, but I do believe you will ultimately need to contact a MS attorney to file a petition for modification of custody if that is where you are leaning. You will need to file a Complaint for Modification in Mississippi in either the county where the original agreement was entered or where the child has lived for the past 6 months. In the petition, you will have to allege a "material change of circumstances" and ask the court to award custody to you. You will need a lawyer to do this. Call my office if we can be of assistance.
