Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi
Support and custody
My spouse decided after 16 years not to be married anymore. The last 8 years I have stayed at home raising our child. I quit work when the baby was born. When we split the bank account was closed, credit cards canceled and now I have nothing.I had a freak fall in November 2003 and have had 12 operations on my leg and ankle since then and the prognosis now is amputation.Because of the split,I have had to move back with my Mother. My spouse has sent me exactly $300 to support our child since June.My 83 year old Mom has picked up the tab for the rest, groceries, clothes,Catholic school tuition, etc.,but she's on SS and her small teacher's retirement. My spouse is Sr Exectuive Producer for a TV station in Atlanta and makes over $90,000 a year.Like I said I have nothing,I'm crippled, have no job and no prospects.I have applied for SS Disability, but they tell me that can take 2 years to get. What am I supposed to do until then?I'm afraid I'm going to lose my child because my spouse is better equipped to provide for her right now.I have taken care of her since she came home from the hospital while my spouse has always worked. What can I do? Will I lose everything in my life because my spouse decided they are tired of me?50+/health probs=no job...

Re: Support and custody
The chancery court can order your husband to pay temporary and permanent support money, including money for your medical needs. Also, the court can order him to pay for your attorney fees.
