Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Mississippi

In which state should I hire legal help?

My father died in MS 1 year ago.I live in CA. There was a 1 page handwritten ''will'' that my father supposedly signed. In the letter my Father left me some money. Since his death, I have recieved from his wife some pictures of my Father but that is all. She says there is no money for his children and in the next breath tells me she has paid off her daughters house. Also, people in MS tell me she has sold off some of his property, and is still running his business. Should I call a lawyer there or here? Is it too late? I don't know if I have enough information.

If there's a Will (probably been destroyed) the Will will be interpreted in accordance with MS law. And if there's no Will (he died intestate) then his property will go in accordance with MS law. So you need an attorney in MS.

Not sure if it's too late, because this is a Mississippi law issue, but find a Mississippi probate lawyer quickly and find out.

You need to talk with an attorney. It is not to late but you should act as soon as possible to preserve any interest in the estate you may have. A holographic will can be probated in Miss. Also, if there is no valid will, the estate is divided equally among a group of survivors including the wife and children.

Handwritten or holographic wills are perfectly binding in most states. You need a local, MS, lawyer to help you. I suggest you assert your rights, sounds like the lady is getting over on you and your dad.

Good luck-Martin
