Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Missouri
Civil Law - Cashing a check that said I was a winner
In October 06, I received a check in the mail for $3,800 saying that I had won from Publisher's Clearing House. It was on a Bank of America check. I went to the Bank of America and the manager signed off on the check after calling and verifying the amount. I left with $3,800. I do not bank there. I have never received any notices from the bank but an attorney that is not even licensed in the state of Missouri keeps on sending me generic form letters saying that he is instituting suit against me. I have already spent the money. Am I at all liable? My boyfriend who knows a banker and also talked with two Federal Reserve Agents says that I am not liable. Please let me know.
