Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Well, I have two children 4 and 2. I live in Missouri, the father lives in New Mexico. He has not been present for almost two years. He has not helped with any of their needs and he never even used to call. well his family is now wanting him to get rights because I am about to get married. He had a past of being in a pychiatric ward, drug use, domestic violence, and he fell with my son when he was one and hurt him very badly when he was drinking...I was just wanting to know what you think I should do? Please help me figure this out

From your question it appears that you were not married to the father of your children when they were born. Was he ever determined to be their legal father? In any event, you may consider filing a Petition seeking a determination of paternity, an order for child support and terms of custody. It would appear that a Missouri Court would have jurisdiction. Consult with an attorney who practices family law in your geographical area.
