Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

My first husband died and we had two girls. I am now remarried and would like to change the girls' last name to be like mine. The girls get social security we save for college. I dont think we can adopt with out losing the social security. Please advise the best way to change thier last name without losing social security.

Thank you!!

You can file a motion to change their last names.

Actually, you will need to file a Petition in the Circuit Court in the County where you reside seeking a Court Order changing the last name of yor daughters. Most attorneys who handle these cases are willing to do so for a very reasonable fee. You will also need to pay the filing fee, the costs of publication and also possibly a fee for changing the actual birth certificates. If you do not already have an attorney, you may contact me for a free telephone consultation.
