Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri

Car ownership

My boyfriends father went along with me to cosign for a car for me, after the paperwork was all filled out he states that he will just buy the car outright for me to save on interest. After purchasing the car he hands me the receipt and says you keep this it's your car, and I would'nt do this if I didn't like you so much. A few days later he comes to the house I share with his son and asks me to move in with him and leave his son, offers to put my daughter through college and I can just do what I want as far as spending his money. Well I tell his son who dosn't believe it and finally confronts him and the father denies it. Shortly after this the father contacts me and wants the car back, and also proceeds to tell me to move out of the house, (him and his son own it together). I move out, his son goes with me and now there is a legal battle over this car. I say it was a gift, I really need a car he just wants it back to be spiteful because I turned down his sexual advances, and his son wants nothing to do with the dirty old man. He has retained a lawyer, I don't have the means to retain one myself. Do I have any leg to stand on or will I loose my car? Please help!

Re: Car ownership

You may claim that it is a gift. He may claim it was a gift in anticipation of your accepting his offer. It could get sticky. If you are without sufficient means to retain a lawyer, you might want to consider Legal Services of Missouri, or the legal clinics at the law schools in St. Louis or Kansas City.
