Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

Joint Ownership of Property

When my Grandma passed away in 2001 she left her home to both my mother and I. My parents were together at the time and made many renovations to the home in which we eventually moved in to. However last year they divorced, my father signed away his part of it, and now my mom is trying to force me to either sell the property or sign my half over to her and her new husband. I wish to do neither but I do not know what legal rights she has to try to take the property away from me and how do I protect myself if she does indeed try something?

Re: Joint Ownership of Property

either co-owner of real estate can "force" a sale of the property by filing a partition action in the circuit court of the county where the realty is located. If such an action is filed, thequestion is not "if" tghe court will order the property sold, but How" it will order it sold. If such a suit is filed, you will need representation by an attorney skilled in such litigation as the method for reasonably assuring your rights and potential profit from sale is complicated.
