Re: retirement plan
Before you agree to this you should find out if there is any value to the pension plan and you should talk to an attorney about what he is proposing. There are so many questions that come to mind regarding his willingness to give up his pension.
Re: retirement plan
You shouldn't make any deals unless you know and understand completely what you are giving up.
How much equity is in the house?
Is the mortgage in both your names? If so, is he going to refinance to get your name off the loan? If so, when and will he be able to refinance?
What is the value of his retirement plan? Is it a 401K type? Is it a pension plan that provides for a certain amount upon retirement? Are there survivor benefits?
It is worth it, to spend the money and consult with a competent lawyer.
