Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Reversing Parental Rights Termination

The father of my child had his parental rights terminated three years ago. He now has called and said that things are changed and he wants to be in our child's life. What are my rights, as the sole legal parent of our child, and what are things I can do to make sure he's being legit, if I decide to go ahead and give him a second chance?

Re: Reversing Parental Rights Termination

1) He has absolutely no rights to contact the child, unless you allow it.

2) You make no mention as the age of the child or the reason for the termination.

3) Your questions focus on you and him, with no regard as to how having a person enter and leave a child's life might affect the child. These are questions best answered by a child counselor/therapist, again depending on the age of the child and any abuse or neglect the child may have suffered.

4) The fact that you might consider the request, apparently with just 1 phone raises questions about you and the child's current relationships.

Words are cheap. Calculate what his child support would be if he were still the father. (18% of his gross monthly income and let him start paying it for 6 months, You can use that money to see a counselor and perhaps start a reuniifcation regimen, if its in the childs best interest to do so.

If he doesn't want to pay or participate in the counseling, you have your answer.
