Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Nevada
copyright law
I work for a large school district. I am a tester and use a standardized exam to obtain a baseline uncdrstanding of the English language in written and oral forms. We use a cassette take for the listening portion of the oral test. It is beginning to wear and sound quality is fading. Additionally, it is cumbersome to carry a tape player with me, along with other technological machinery and files, to multiple schools to test these students. My question is: May I transfer the audio tape, that the District own, into digital audio to keep on the laptop to play on the laptop while administering the exam without infringing on copyright laws?

Re: copyright law
The answer lies in the licensing agreement that the school district signed when they purchased the exam and peripheral materials. Since I don't have access to the licensing agreement, I cannot advise you further.
Check with the attorney who represents the district in these matters.
Good luck!
