Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Hampshire

Finding a will in NH.

I would appreciate direction...I need to find--name removed--copy of my in-laws will. My spouse (their child) received an inheritance in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The spouse kept it--name removed--secret. The IRS has notified us that--name removed--substantial tax bill is due for 2006. It appears that all of the money due is from the inheritance. I also found out that the kids inherited too. Again, the spouse will not share information or acknowledge anything. I need help!!! And I need to get--name removed--copy of the will for MY protection! I believe the in-laws died in NH. Suggestions? Ideas?

Re: Finding a will in NH.

Wills are probated in the county where the person lived. All you have to do is figure out where they lived/died, and go to the Probate Court in that county. The records are open to the public.

However, given that there have been multiple distributions, I'd be concerned that there is a Trust outside the will. I would also be concerned that there is something out of the oridinary as many distributions from an estate are not taxable if properly reported. Without more detail it is difficult to offer further suggestions. You might benefit from consulting with an attorney esperienced in tax and probate matters as you gather further information.
