Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey
firing an independent contractor
I am a self employed massage therapist. I hired an independent contractor for part time work. For nearly the past 13 days I have tried to contact her. Her cell phone wouldn't pick up, I left meassages on her home phone and mailed a letter to her house. When I finally got in touch with her today she said she'd been on vacation! She never told me and as a result missed an appointment. Can I fire her? There is no termination agreement in our contract.

Re: firing an independent contractor
Your question implies that you have a written contract. In that case, the starting point for any analysis would be the contract itself. If you would like me to look it over, fax it to the number contained in my contact information. Please provide contact information for yourself.
