lieing to mortgage co

i laid off a worker and he is trying to obtain a loan to open a business, he asked me to say he is still working here if a mortgage co calls, what could happen to me

You would be assisting him in perpetrating a fraud on the mortgage company. If he later defaults on the loan, the mortgage company could sue you and your business for the damages to it caused by your deliberately false statement.
