Is there a way to legally change my first name for free?

You could probably go to the Court and get a kit which will explain how to file a Complaint seeking to change your name. There may be a way to request that the Court wave the $200.00 filing fee based on the claim that you are indigent (which you need to be able to prove based on proof of income), but you would still be responsible for paying to Publish the notice of The hearing date both before and after the Hearing seeking to change your name. There are also several other fees involved so you would stil incur some expense. contact the Court and ask them if they have a packet on changing your name and see if there is a way to avoid paying the filing fee, good luck
