Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey

Police Reports

My wife was victim to a person who exposed himsilf in a parking lot. The man was arrested and eventually charged with public lewdness and had to get a psyche eval. After the eval time period he came to our house several times doing over $18,000 in auto/home damages. He was caught and confessed. He got our name and address from the police report which was supposed to be blacked out. You can see right through the black marks. Is the Police station liable for this action?

Re: Police Reports

They would have to have been guilty of gross negligence, and failing to completely black out a form doesn't strike me as rising to that level. You can, of course, try it, because it depends upon how poorly done the blacking out was, but in general it doesn't sound like you have a strong enough case to overcome governmental immunity.
