Legal Question in Technology Law in New Jersey

Domain Name Ownership

A domain name was owned by someone.

That domain name was being leased by someone else.

The Lesee subsequently leesed the domain name to a third party.

We are purchasing the domain name from the owners.

We are fairly sure that the current leese holder will not provide the administrative information needed to change the domain name.

What can we do?

Re: Domain Name Ownership

I think your options depend, in part, on what rights the current lessee has from the original owner. If there is no lease and they won't surrender the name, I think your first option is to have an attorney send them a cease and desist letter. If that fails, then I think you take them through the domain name dispute resolution process as a squatter on your name.

Thank you for your question. Good luck with your issue.

Best regards,
