Legal Question in Technology Law in New Jersey

web store to sell MP3s.

Im building a web store where I will sell music of unknown artists. Id like to protect myself by making the artist sign a contact where him/her the artist assumes all the responsibilities for copyright and royalties of their songs as the songs owners. Im at no time responsible for that as Im not the owner, I just provide the service (my web store) for them to sell their music. where can I find these forms and how are they called?

thanx in advance.

Re: web store to sell MP3s.

You've described a mechanical license agreement, with specific license grants for Internet distribution. I imagine you can find these on the web somewhere, but I would advise against simply finding one at random and using it. You should retain competent counsel experienced in music licensing to assist you.

I agree with Mr. Pepper. Find a good IP attorney to draft the LA for you. Its not my area of the law, but it shouldn't be expensive.
