Legal Question in Construction Law in New Jersey
Contractor Registration Act in NJ
I am a contractor in NY. I was subcontracted by a NJ Company in Sept. 2005 and began work prior to the enactment of the Contractor Registration Act becoming effective Dec. 31, 2005. I am not registered in NJ. Did I break the law and is there a statute of limitations; the job ended in July of 2006. If I Registered now would that resolve any legal issues? Thank you sincerely.

Re: Contractor Registration Act in NJ
You don't give enough information to tell whether you need to register yourself. Many subcontractors don't. However, it can't hurt to register especially if you think that there may be a legal issue if you do not.
BTW, the effective date of the act was delayed at least twice because of the administrative burden of compliance (on the State). So, your work might not be affected. Only the details will tell.
