Legal Question in Construction Law in New Jersey

homeowner sueing me

I started a job for a young couple. After getting involved with the clients we learned my wife got transfered to another state for work. The homeowners and I agreed that the architect would take over the job and finish the job as planned. The homeowners signed as the general contractor with the city. The homeowners agreed to let the Archictecht do the work and except funds under his co. 90 percent of the work was completed but disputes have come into play. All funds were givin to the architecht and I resided 3000 miles away. I was not informed of any problems nor asked any questions per this job for around a year later when I received leagal letters. since the architecht went BK , they are comming after me. Am I liable?

Re: homeowner sueing me

You could be liable depending on how the contract was assigned to the architect. Contact me if you would like me to review the documents and other facts so that I can give you more information.

The answer to that will be determined by the court. You've been sued - you'll have to defend it whether you're right or not. You may be able to negotiate your way out of this without spending a ton of money on defense. It's worth a try. Get a local attorney to represent you. If the case is in SoCal courts as implied, feel free to contact me.
