Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

contracts

I signed a contract with a large siding company for an agreed upon price to side my house after meeting with their sales rep for over 4 hours. A week later the company called and said their sales rep had made an error in measuring the house and the cost had increased significantly. I have a signed contract with that company- don't they have to complete the job for the original price? What are my options?

Re: contracts

On the facts as you describe them, any mistake in contracting is a unilateral one on the part of the contractor which you were not aware of at the time of contracting. Hence, you have a good contract and can enforce it. Exactly what that means depends on what you intend to do about getting the siding done. There are many ways in which this can play out and a lawyer should advise you on what to do next. It is particularly important that you create a record of what had occurred. It is also important that you not do anything that would make it seem that you agreed to the price increase. Unless you have the time to apply to law school and take a quick course in contract law, you are probably better off getting a lawyer to review all of the facts and advise you.
