Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey
Missing Contractor
I hired a contractor to do simple sheetrock work, etc. in January. He said it would take him 2 weeks to complete the job. It is now May and he won't come back to finish the job. He won't return my phone calls. I already paid him in full. The contact he wrote up doesn't specify an end date.

Re: Missing Contractor
The contractor has violated the Home Improvement Regulations under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (as long as this was a residential property and the total job was for in excess of $200). Under the act, the contractor cannot request to be paid in full before the job is finished. The contract must also state the start/end date or the time period in which the job will be completed. You should consult with an attorney experienced with the Home Improvement Regulations. Feel free to call me if you need additional info.
