Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

credit card dept

I oringinally owed 1,500 credit card. the account was turned over to an attorney who now wants 3,500.00. instead of answering in court i contacted the attorney's office to arrange to pay 100.00 per month, i received a letter to pay 3,500.00 plus 24% interest. Is there any way that i can contacting the original deptor and pay less and not deal with the attorney at all?

Re: credit card dept

Of course, it happens all the time and sometimes the company never even tells the attorney until months later. The worst that they can say is no.

It may be a little too late at this point, but if all else fails ask for proof of debt to show how much you owe and then ask you it jumped up by $2000. Also ask to see where it states that you would have to pay interest in this type of situation since they cannot add terms later on.

Good luck!
