Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Credit Card Lien

I have a credit card judgement against me and have completed an information subpeona. Will I be notified if a lien is placed on my bank accounts. I am trying to borrow money from a friend, but it needs to go to other things (rent, alimony, child support). I don't want to deposit it in account and have creditor sieze it. Can they do that?

Re: Credit Card Lien

Yes, you will be notified by the Sheriff/Constable and the bank that your account has been levied once the levy is in place and any money in the account at that time will be frozen. You may want to consider avoiding further deposits into the account until the matter is resolved.

While there are exceptions to what funds may be turned over to a creditor following a levy, a good rule of thumb is to assume that all funds in an account at the time of levy can be subject to turnover to the judgment creditor.
