Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Reposession

My car was repossed in October of 2001. I have been unemployed since September of the same year.It has been not quite 2 years since happened. Is there a time limitation on their ability to collect what I owe?

We already have 1 judgement in action now, which will take another 2 years to pay off. There is another judgement waiting after the first one is finished.Thank you.

Re: Reposession

They can attempt to collect technically at any time. They only have 4 years from the default date, however, to file suit. If they file suit after the four years, it could give rise to a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
