I got the credit card in New Jersey moved to Ohio around April 1989 then at 11-12-1989 moved to Tennessee where I've been now for going on 13 years. What's the statue of limitations for collecting on this debt obviously it was written off for my credit is good. I have a number of loans out now that were approved. And can they collect?

Re: statue of limitation of debt recovery

The statute of limitations is 6 years, usually calculated from the default date or the date of last payment(really thirty days from last payment). If you are outside the statute, they will violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) if they sue you. If you want them to stop calling/writing you, then follow your rights under the FDCPA. You can check out this website for a copy of the FDCPA: http://fair-debt-collection.com/ Hope that helps.
