Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

The statute of limitations to commence a cause of action to enforce payment of a debt in NJ is six years. N.J.S.A. 12A:3-118(a). The statute of limitations period begins on the due date or dates stated in a note. Is the due date the date of final payment on the note or the date of full payment set by a collector hired to collect on a delinquent account?

the debt collector has nothing to do with it.

you really need to tell all the facts to a lawyer and get an answer.

there are a lot of debt collectors out there trying to get payment on old, stale accounts. a good lawyer can put a stop to the harrasment.
