Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Is it illegal if your child is sick and do not send her to school in nj??
1 Answer from Attorneys
If your child is legitimately ill and misses a few days from school this is generally usually not an issue. It helps to have a Doctors note to back up that the child was ill. The problem is where your child keeps missing too many days from school. A parent can be brought before a municipal judge where the child has too many unexplained absences from school and the parent could potentially face fines or other penalties in extreme situations. However, missing a day or two for a valid illness would not trigger that situation. It really depends on the amount of days you are referring too and if there is a serious medical issue to justify the absences. I do not know if that is your situation but I hope that helps. Perhaps also speaking to an attorney familiar with truancy issues would help depending on your overall situation, good luck
