It does help that you have no previous record, but you need to talk to an attorney asap. Feel free to call our offices.
This is a type of New Jersey criminal charge known as a Disorderly Persons Offense. It carries MAXIMUM penalties of 6 months in jail and $1,000.00 fine plus you would have a criminal record for at least five years before you could try to clean it. I would never advise someone to go to court on a criminal charge without a lawyer, especially someone who has no experience with the criminal justice system. There may even be ways to beat this charge - I've beaten this type of charge in the past. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.
