Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
question about bench warrant
Hi,
I live in Canada and in 1999 i've been arrested at wildwood crest NJ for marijuana stubs possession and failed to appear in court. A warrant was issued against me at the border ( Nj or Us ??). Since then i did not return to the US. Last month i contacted a Private detective who conducted a background check under my name and my case number in NJ at the US borders and other databases. The result was null. The response was that my case was either sealed or inexistant because of my international status. Now i am affraid to enter the US and get arrested. What should i do?

You should hire me to disposed of your charge; the charge is probably still pending.
Call me if you like.

Coincidentally I live in Wildwood Crest. I would suggest you call the court and ask what happened to the charge. They aren't going to extradite you across the border. If they tell you the charge was dismissed, you are home free. If the charge is pending, you can handle a local attorney to resolve the charge for you. You might not even have to appear. If it was a first offense, you can probably get a conditional discharge - a brief period of living clean, demonstrated by periodic urine tests. At the end of the period the charge is dismissed. If this was not your first charge, you may have to pay a fine. In any event, an outcome far superior to being arrested at the border.
