Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Removing a Felony or to have hidden
How are you? approx. 6 and half years ago I purchased a stunn gun from a catalog called galaxy electronics when I used to live in New Jersey,In the catalog it stated that stun guns were a safe and legal, non lethal device that can be carried concealed or not concealed and that a license or permit was not required to carry one, so I purchased one based on this, I was later arrested for possession, I couldn't afford an attorney so I had to get a public defender. I was later convicted and labeled as a felon for the past six and a half years I've wrote the Gov. the state congressman and the senator and still no reply this has been reuining my life I'm not a criminal,I can't obtain employment to get a nice job any where all I want is have my life back I have no priors since, I never done drugs I dont drink I have a good driving record.I want to get a job in security. How can I have this removed from my record???
Thanks for your time talk to you soon.
Sincerely

If you wish to reduce it to a misdemeanor conviction, or have it. Call me directly at (619) 222-3504.
Re: Removing a Felony or to have hidden
The first way to remove this matter from your record is to seek an expungement, however, you may still have to wait a few years depending on exactly how your charges were handled. I need to get some more information from you so that I can determine when you will be eligible to expunge this matter. If you are not able to expunge it, or if it is too early, there may be some other options I can recommend.
You can learn more about NJ expungements by visiting my website at www.expungemynjrecord.com.
Feel free to give me a call at your convenience so we can discuss the details. Please be advised that there is no charge for consultations.

It may be possible to have the felony reduced and expunged from the record so you don't have to admit to it on employment applications. Contact me to discuss the facts and proceedures if interested in doing so.
Re: Removing a Felony or to have hidden
Since you were convicted in New Jersey, you can only seek relief in a New Jersey court or a pardon from the governor of that state. California has no authority to change the judgment of another state's courts.
Also, while I sympathize with your plight, the fact that you believed carrying a stun gun was legal does not make it so. The law under which you were convicted surely did not forbid carrying one only if you knew it was illegal. All that matters is whether you were carrying it and whether you knew both what it was and that it was on your person.
Re: Removing a Felony or to have hidden
The only way to get a felony conviction removed from your record in New Jersey is to apply for an expungement. The waiting period for applying for an expungement of a felony conviction is ten years from the last date of your sentence or period of probation. Unfortunately you are not yet eligible to apply for an expungement. When the time comes though, you can contact me again since I do expungements for people with criminal records.
Sincerely yours, Ronald Aronds, Esq.
