Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Can a boy of 17 in S.C. who talks by internet and phone only to a girl of 14 in N.J. be charged with a crime? They have been talking for almost 5 years and would like to get married one day. They girl's mother is threatening to press charges, but what could he be charged with?
