Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Child Support & Court Summons
What do I do when Child Support paperwork was supposedly never received?
I filed a complaint for child support and was told that the father would receive paperwork informing him of our court date. Its been several weeks already and the father tells me that he still hasn't received anything in the mail. Will my case be dismissed or delayed if doesn't show up? I don't want to pay extra money to hire a process server to have his summons served to him. What's going to happen if he doesn't show up to court?

You must remember that when you file a child support complaint your complaint is one of many, many complaints being filed or which have been filed. It takes several weeks in Bergen County, for example, for an initial hearing on a child support complaint to be scheduled. Sometimes it takes a little nudge. When you go to the in-take office you should learn the name of the person with whom you deal and when you call the office you shouldl ask for that person by name so that you become more than a file.

Sounds like you are going without an attorney. I would at least consult with one.
