Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Divorce Complaint
My husband and I are separated (not legally). He left me in December and is now terminally ill. He lives in NJ 3 days a week and PA 4 days a week. I own a house in NJ (which I am losing) and am now living in PA with family. He served me with a NJ Divorce Complaint and said I have 30 days to respond recommending a lawyer only naming 2 vehicles as assets needing to be divided. The vehicles and insurance are in my name only but were bought with family money. I really do not want a divorce. Do I have to respond to his complaint with a lawyer (or at all) within 30 days? Can I sell the cars to help pay my bills? Is he intitled to anything from the cars? Should the complaint be in NJ or PA (his lawyer is a friend of his and this will tell me where I need to go fo my lawyer if needed)? Also, his complaint says he is able to work but he changed insurance and dropped me. Can he do that?

Re: Divorce Complaint
If you are losing your house you should be selling it to save some portion of your equity in same. He is not supposed any insurance coverage and can be compelled to reinstate your coverage. If you ignore the divorce complaint it will proceed without your participation and have consequences you may not like. You can sell the cars so long as there is no order that says you can not, but you may have to account for the proceed from the sale of same. You need an attorney.
