Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

revisiting primary custody

I am wondering if I need a lawyer. My issue is this. I currently have ''shared/joint custody of my 16 yr old son. Per the courts and our divorce agreement his mother is the ''primary'' custodian.I want to know how to go about changing this. As I said the child is 16,I do not want to ask him to make the desicision as to who to live with as I feel this would be too traumatic for him. He has to reject one parent in order to make a choice. I believe it is in his best interest to live at my and my wifes home Mon. thru Fri. as we can ensure that he goes to school and is on time which are issues. We would also see that he does get any medical care he needs in a timely manner which has also been an issue. Please advise me if a change in custody (primary) is something that requires a lawyer in the state of NJ. We have revisited the custody issue at my exs insistence before and always used a ''mediator''. Is it a simple file at the courthouse?

Re: revisiting primary custody

Believe it or not, lawyers have a learned profession. You are not an attorney so you may think that as an intelligent person who can practice law. You might trying doing surgery first. If you are dealing with an issue of great importance and you represent yourself you have an idiot for an attorney.
