Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Statute of limitaions

Is there a statute of limitations on how far back I can go to get money owed to me by my ex. This is not child or spousal support. It is reimbursement for child care, medical co-pays, etc. I have a file cabinet full of paperwork and need to weed it out. I am one of the lucky ones that only has an idiotic problem like this, my kids and I are self sufficient.

Re: Statute of limitaions

No, but there is something known as laches. Laches is when one sits on his rights so long that it would be unfair to enforce them. How long is too long depends upon the facts of each individual case. Laches does not totally preclude the enforcement of one's rights but may limit the amount of time, going backwards, the court will deem the rights to be enforceable.
