Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
taxes
I live in N.Y. but baby & mother live in N.J. I understand that child support would fall under N.J. jurisdiction. Now my question is, is child support tax deductible??

Re: taxes
Generally speaking, payments designated as "child support" shall not be deductible to the payor for income tax purposes and shall not be includable as taxable income to the payee. However, you should also and always speak to an accountant or other financial expert regarding tax questions.
Re: taxes
No.
You really need advice and assistance from an attorney. You will be paying child support for as much as twenty two years. New York is simple, a flat percentage of your income. New Jersey is much more complicated, a long calculation including your income, her income and many other factors. Without a lawyer fighting for you, you could end up paying a lot more than you should.

Re: taxes
Child support itself is not tax deductible but you might seek to list
your children as dependents on your taxx returns in alternate years.
