Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Unwed Father's rights
If a guy's now ex-girlfriend tells him she's on the pill, but forgot to take it one day and is now pregnant, does he (as the father) have any legal ground to compel her to terminate the unwanted pregnancy?

Very interesting question. The answer to your question, currently, is that you have no right to require her to terminate the pregnancy. However, there is a case pending that may change your situation somewhat. Quite frankly, I do not think there would ever be a requirement that would force the woman to terminate the pregnancy. However, a pending case seeks to get rid of the support requirement of the biological father.
As reported through many media outlets in early March, 2006, the law suit is nicknamed "Roe v. Wade for Men" because it seeks to allow men a legal right to decline the responsibilities of fatherhood to the same degree that women can currently decline motherhood through abortion. The 25-year-old male Plaintiff in that law suit wants to relinquish all legal connection to a daughter born last year by an ex-girlfriend who had assured him she was infertile. Specifically, he doesn't want to pay $500 a month in child support.
For more information, you can go to the web page for the National Center For Men, the organization that filed the law suit.
Editorial comment: You felt you were mature enough to have sex. You now need to be mature enough to do what is right - support your child and establish a father/child relationship with that child.
Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Good luck! Rob Gleaner

No.

Your only opportunity to control whether she would have your child ended when you had unprotected sex with her. It is entirely her decision as to whether she will abort the fetus.
