Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New Jersey

Domain Name owned by a Corporation

Hi,

I have a domain name that is owned by my corporation. Am I shielded from any personal liabilities?

Also, what is involved in registering trademarks for a website?

Thanks.

Re: Domain Name owned by a Corporation

In general, you would be protected from personal liability for the debts and liabilities of the corporation. The same would be true if the domain name is owned by the corporation, and actually being used by the corporation in furtherance of its business. However, there are some exceptions to this rule, so I cannot completely answer your question without further information.

Regarding trademark registration, what are you looking to trademark - the domain name? Your answer depends upon the specific mark you're looking to protect.

Feel free to contact my office to discuss your situation further.
