Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

company promised hired me over the phone in lieu of an interview -rushed me to q

Abbott labs contacted me from a resume that I had posted on a job site. They set an interview date and on that day told me that I could have the position they were offering because I possesed a certain certification that other canidates did not have. They offered...I accepted and I was told that they would send an e-mail of confirmation and all the particulars of the position as well as driving directions to their locating. They also said that if I wan't the job I had to start the following Monday( I couldn't give two weeks notice to my current employer)....I gave notice ...Abbott never contacted me and would not respond to my many calls. I was unable to return to my employer of almost 6 years and because I quit my job I was unable to collect unemployment. I have taken a job making a lot less and we are having financial problems because of this. Is this legal for Abbott Labs to do? Can I take them to court because of this?

You may have a number of legal grounds to sue this company. One is called "detrimental reliance" which means you relied on your detriment upon their representation of hiring you. Two other grounds are tortiously interfering with your prospective economic advantage and fraud. Please contact me if I can be assistance. My number is 908-486-3181.
