Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Termination and Non-compete

I was recently terminated from my job and offered to be paid until january 31 2009. I never signed an non-compete with the employer, and now post employment they are telling me that I need to write an email stating that I will not compete or they will stop my payments going further.

I never received an exit interview, but do have a signed and emailed document that states that I will be paid until january 31 2009.

Can they do this?

This is one of those circumstances where a letter from your lawyer may help.
