Do I have to answer questions from the investigator if I chose not to?

No. As a service member you have a right to remain silent when questioned by an investigator if the investigator could or should reasonably suspect you of committing an offense, or if you feel that your answers may tend to incriminate you in some wrongdoing. But if you choose to answer, you have an absolute duty to be truthful. Otherwise you could be charged with making a false official statement or false swearing (if the statement is under oath).
