Legal Question in Personal Injury in New Jersey
I ran a red light at a four-way intersection which resulted in a collision with another vehicle. There were no injuries. My ticket states my offense as 'Failure to observe signal'- when I go to court, will the fact that it resulted in an accident affect me or will they only focus on the 'failure to observe signal' offense?

The accident can impact the outcome but since there were no injuries that you know of, you should be OK. I still suggest calling an attorney.
I suspect that you were charged with a violation of New Jersey Statute 39:4105 commonly cited as N.J.S.A. 39:4105 , failure to stop at a traffic light. There are several implications to a violation of that statute. If you plead guilty, you will be assessed fines and 2 points. In addition, your plea of guilty will be admissible against you in civil action for property damage and or injury. If you decide to plead guilty, ask the Judge to enter it with a "civil reservation." That will make your guilty plea inadmissable in a civil court. If you contest the case and have a trial and the Court finds you guilty, that finding is not admissible in a civil court but any testimony you gave in court is admissible against you. An accident in and of itself is not evidence that you violated the statute but could be used by the Judge for purposes of determining the amount of the fine. You will also get 2 points.
