Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Closing Time Frame

I signed a contract on November 24th for my brother in law to buy the house i co own with my other 2 siblings and my father. It is now February 1st and the Closing still has not happened, nor do I have any updates on when it might take place. Is it normal for a closing to take this long? I closed my house I now own in less than 30 days.

I do not know what mortgage company he is using, or where in the process it is. I have tried to get a straight answer and all i keep getting is that the mortgage company keeps asking for documents. I was told it was suppose to happen January 23rd but the mortgage company needed a proof of homeowners insurance and that was the last thing supposedly. What are my legal rights to get this closed and recieve my money?

Thanks!!!!!

Re: Closing Time Frame

A sale between brothers and sisters should not take any longer, usually, than any other closing. 60 days is a bit long to wait. Do you have an attorney representing you in this sale? I suggest that a lawyer may be able to move this sale along more quickly, and will be able to protect your interests.
