If you are looking for an affordable modification of your mortgage:

1. Do NOT use any company or agency that will charge for its services. Don't be fooled by names that sound as if they are approved or part of the U.S. government.

2. Look for a government authorized Consumer Credit Counseling agency, that provides services with no charge, will evaluate offers of a modification made by your mortgage company, and will assist you with gathering the necessary documents for you to send to your mortgage company.

Banks must agree to participate in the Home Affordable Modification Program.
