Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey
Hi! I live in New Jersey and have owned my own condo for 17 years. I have been married for 2 years and my husband is not on any documents and does not pay towards the mortgage. I am putting it up for sale to purchase a new house and will use most of the money I make on the sale as a downpayment for the new house. My husband will be paying that mortgage. If for some reason we divorce in the future, can my husband try to get half of the money that I made on the house in our divorce settlement. If so, how do I protect myself?
Thanks!

Yes, it is possible. You may want to actually hire a lawyer to see how you can prevent that from happening.
