Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Title of House has wrong middle initial

Do I have to correct this? Just bought the house and the deed misread my middle initial, R, as the letter ''B''. Are there legal ramifications?

You may correct deed errors by filing a new deed. Check to see if the was already sent for recording or if so whether the clerk can correct it before the deed is actually recorded. This does not seem to present a major issue but to be safe if you wish it may be changed. Did the title company catch this? Maybe they should be consulted about the error on the title policy if you had title insurance. Who prepared the deed incorrectly and did you correct it at the table?

I agree with Sal, that this is no big problem, and can be corrected easily, if already recorded, by just filing a Corrective Deed. A small recording fee will probably be involved, and maybe you can the person/entity who made the error to do this and pay the fee.
