denied ssi

i was denied ssi on 12-18-07 i put in appeal on 2-18-08 i called ss to find status & they told me it takes 4 months for an appeal. is this true

This first appeal in NJ is called a Reconsideration. It can take anywhere from two weeks to six months. Be sure to submit more medical records.

If you are denied, file a Request for Hearing. It may take a year or more to schedule a hearing.
