Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Failure to appear

What happens if a person is charged with a moving violation and doesn't show and gets a ''failure to appear''? Is there an immediate bench warrant or does the court give a second opportunity? It was a citizen complaint for passing a school bus and required an appearance, but the defendant never showed.

Re: Failure to appear

Depending on the Judge, you either get a fialure to appear and you can call the court and have them reschedule or a bench warrant was issued which also suspends your drivers license so if you get pulled over then you have more serious charges against you.

Re: Failure to appear

If you don't show up, you either get an FTA, i.e. a warning or a bench warrant.
