Failure to yield to pedestrian

I have a NY license (registered to Long Island), received a ticket in NJ (Bergen county) for failing to yield to a pedestrian. The passenger in my car also did not see pedestrian. I have a clean driving record, and feel I only received the ticket because the officer thought I wouldn't bother to come back to court.

what should I do? I won't receive points because of the NY license, but I did nothing wrong and don't think I should pay anything at all for a police officer being overly eager to write a ticket.

If you don't want to just pay the ticket or to work out a plea deal for a zero point ticket then your only other option is to take the case to trial. Just for your information, even if the points don't register with the New York DMV, they will still be reported to your insurance company and will be listed as insurance points. I wonder whether your ticket was issued in Montclair. There seems to be an epidemic of false charges for failure to yield. To be guilty there has to be someone standing in the crosswalk and not on the sidewalk. Someone on the sidewalk is supposed to yield to traffic.
